(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, June 9 (Petra) -- His Majesty King Abdullah II on Saturday received EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini and discussed with her the strategic partnership between Jordan and the European Union.
During the meeting, they reviewed the reforms and economic programs carried out by the Kingdom to overcome economic and financial challenges arising from regional crises.
The meeting discussed the Palestinian issue and the need to reach a just and comprehensive peace between the Palestinians and the Israelis based on the two-state solution, leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The King and Mogherini stressed the importance of finding political solutions to crises in the Middle East region, especially the Syrian crisis. His Majesty emphasized the need to maintain the de-escalation zone in southwestern Syria, which was announced last year after following a tripartite agreement between Jordan, the United States and Russia.
Mogherini expressed the European Union's appreciation for Jordan's efforts under the leadership of His Majesty the King to achieve security, peace and stability in the region, stressing the need that the international community shoulders its responsibilities to support the Kingdom to overcome the challenges.
The meeting was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs, the Advisor to His Majesty the King, the Director of His Majesty's Office and the Ambassador of the European Union in Amman.
