Doha: The Ministry of Economy and Commerce has launched an initiative to issue licenses of building commercial warehouses in three business days.

The initiative, which is set to enter into force on Sunday, applies if a commercial warehouse was chosen from the approved models that cover construction and architecture maps.

The committee noted that there are seven approved models that include construction and architecture maps as well as service plans prepared by Economic Zones Company (Manateq) for a land area of 1,000 square meters and 2,000 square meters in Birkat Al Awamer and Aba Saleel logistic park.

The initiative is related to facilitating the mechanism of obtaining building permits for dry commercial warehouses that do not require special conditions such as building materials, tools and equipment, the committee said.
The initiative aims to improve the business services in Qatar and facilitate and speed up the services provided to customers so as to promote and develop the business sector and attract more investments, in addition to improving Qatar's ranking in international report indices in terms of the ease of practicing business activities.

Based on the analytical study prepared by the building permits sub-committee, it was clear that the issuance of a commercial store building license is a key area of investment promotion that is used as a pivotal indicator in the assessment of the business environment in the country. It is also one of 10 criteria on which the World Bank relies on when judging the global ranking of the country on the Ease of Doing Business index.
According to the technical committee, coordination has been established with relevant authorities in this regard, including Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa), Civil Defense, the Building Permit Complex, Manateq and the Public Works Authority (Ashghal).

The number of procedures was then reduced to five instead of 10, and the license issue period was reduced from 55 working days to three for seven models that were prepared by Manateq in accordance with the specifications and standards approved for land plots of 1,000 and 2,000 square meters in Birkat Al Awamer and Aba Saleel logistic parks, where certain storage activities are conducted.

The technical committee is in charge of reviewing and developing mechanisms and systems, proposing legislative instruments and improving the country's ranking regarding the business environment and investment promotion.

The Ministry of Economy and Commerce leads the committee, which includes in its membership the Ministry of Interior; the Ministry of Finance; the Ministry of Municipality and Environment; the Ministry of Justice; the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs; the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics; Qatar Central Bank; Supreme Judiciary Council; and Kahramaa.
