EU ambassador to Algiers summoned by Algerian Foreign Ministry


(MENAFN) The Algerian Foreign Ministry was announced to have called for John O'Rourk, Ambassador of the EU to Algiers after the release of footage that contains offensive remarks about Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika.

Former ENTV reporter Leyla Haddad slammed President Bouteflika as "an object in the hands of his brother and the barons of the regime," in a video taken at the headquarters of the EU parliament in Brussels.

Secretary-General of Algerian Foreign Ministry Noureddine Ayadi said "we hope that the EU publicly stands out of this maneuver and we ask for concrete action to be taken against the irresponsible actions of the offender."

The statement added that "Algeria's ambassador in Brussels, based on instruction from the Foreign Ministry, has taken urgent procedures at the level of EU competent institutions."
