Jordan denounces Paraguay's Jerusalem embassy opening

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) AMMAN, May 21 (KUNA) -- Jordan has condemned Paraguay's move to open its Israel embassy in Jerusalem, becoming the second country to follow the United States in making the shift from Tel Aviv.
The measure is an "infraction" of the UN charter and international conventions, the Jordanian government's official spokesman and Minister of Information Dr. Mohammad Al Momani told the press on Monday.
He described the move as "null and void", saying that the Hashemite Kingdom vehemently opposes any embassy move to the holy city of Jerusalem.
The Jordanian official urged the international community to adhere to UN Security Council Resolution 478, which advises all nations not to shift their Israel embassies to Jerusalem.
After the US relocated its Israel embassy to Jerusalem last week, Paraguay now joins Guatemala as countries to have followed suit. (end) mjb.nam
