Palestinian prisoner dies of medical negligence inside Israeli jails

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) RAMALLAH, May 20 (KUNA) -- Palestinian Society Prisoner's Club announced Sunday the death of Palestinian prisoner Aziz Owaisat, 53 years, after being hit with a stroke at Al-Ramla clinic on May 9th.
The club said, in a press statement, that the prisoner had been transferred to Israeli Assaf Harofeh Medical Center, where he was announced officially dead this evening.
The prisoner's club and Palestinian prisoners' movement held the Israeli occupation fully responsible for Owaisat death, adding the occupation kept him in custody despite the fact that he reached a dangerous stage.
The club also noted that the number of prisoners who have suffered from medical negligence in detention camps during the past five years reached seven inmates, in addition to Owaisat, who has been detained since 2014 and sentenced to 30 years.
The club pointed out that the number of Palestinian martyrs inside Israeli jails rose to 216 since 1967, including 75 prisoners who were killed after a decision to liquidate and execute them.
The statement added the number of Palestinians arrested and died as result of torture reached 72 people, noting that 62 died as a result of medical negligence, and seven prisoners because of direct fire by Israeli soldiers or guards inside detention centers. (end) nq.mb
