Children handout Iftar to motorists, labourers in UAE

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) An Abu Dhabi school joined the festive spirit of giving by distributing Ramadan food packets and goody bags to 1,000 motorists and 100 labourers at traffic junctions in Mussafah.

Doing their bit, the principal, teachers, students, parents and administrative staff of Dunes International School Abu Dhabi have launched the 'Ramadan Charity Drive'.

"We had organised Iftar party last year where nearly 500 families were invited - the first of its kind in Abu Dhabi. This is the first time we are doing it outdoors. There are scores of fasting motorists who get caught in traffic during the Iftar time. Apart from students, teachers and staff we had parents and even grandparents being part of the activity - from making food packs to delivering them," said principal Paramjit Ahluwalia, who too observed a fast.

The food box included water bottle, juice, yogurt, biryani and date packs. As part of the safety measure, students were refrained from stepping onto road and only teachers and parents distributed the food kit. The school safety officer was at the site to monitor the proceedings.

"I thank students and their parents for being on the forefront to support such initiatives," said Ahluwalia, who led the initiatives.

The school aims to distribute 1,000 food packs every Thursday throughout the holy month. It also has plans to deliver Ramadan kits in newspaper bags. Further initiatives include conducting an Iftar at a labour accommodation, subjected to the approval from authorities concerned.
