Kuwait pushes for int'l protection of Palestinians at UN Security Council
The State of Kuwait on Friday submitted a draft resolution to the UN Security Council (UNSC), calling for providing international protection to civilians in the occupied Palestinian territories including those in Gaza Strip.
Al Otaibi said in remarks carried by Kuwait news agency (KUNA), that the negotiations on the draft resolution would be scheduled on the level of experts next Monday. He added that the draft resolution called for
providing international protection to occupied Palestinian territories in addition to the lifting of the blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip by Israel.
The document also encouraged intensifying UN efforts to de-escalate the situation in the region and reinforcing the respect of international and humanitarian laws, he said.
Kuwait, a member of the UN Security Council, did its first tenure as non-permanent UNSC member in 1978-1979. It has been actively contributing to many issues since its accession as a non-permanent member of the Council, especially the region's issues, being the Arab representative to the Council.
