DOHA: The World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE), an initiative of Qatar Foundation (QF), recently participated in a large-scale research project organized by the MasterCard Foundation focusing on preparing youth in Africa for future work and education opportunities.
Dr Ahmed Baghdady, Research and Content Development manager at WISE, represented WISE and Qatar Foundation at the Second Strategic Advisory Meeting held in Washington DC recently.
Dr Baghdady, said, 'WISE and Qatar Foundation are delighted to be part of this important meeting of partners engaged in large-scale research on secondary education in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The future of the continent depends on well-educated graduates who will join the labor market directly after secondary education to boost the economy, or pursue university education and fill professional positions in their countries in the future.
The project began in October 2017 with over 20 representatives from organizations around the world convening in Kigali, Rwanda, to discuss the research plan.
The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2018.
In 2017, WISE partnered with BRAC (Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee) to conduct a research report on secondary education with policy recommendations titled, ‘Transition and Dropout in Lower Income Countries: Case studies of secondary education in Bangladesh and Uganda'. The reports aim to address the global challenges of secondary education and to prepare youth for the future of work.
