(MENAFN) Tunisia is set to hold its first local election ever since the 2011 Arab Spring revolution, possibly electing the first female mayor and the first Jewish official with an Islamist party.

The elections were confirmed to be launched on Sunday, with 5.3 eligible voters ready to cast their vote to elect local leaders from 2.000 candidate lists.

The lists of candidates were said to be having 49 percent females with over fifty percent under the age of 35, with 18 lists dominated by disabled candidates.

Candidate Souad Abderrahim spoke about her campaign, saying that it is "a source of pride for Tunisia women."
