The French army announces that its troops will remain in Syria

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, May 4 (Petra)-- French Army Chief of Staff General Francois Leucuantre announced that his country's troops will remain in Syria, along with the American soldiers, to complete the "counter terrorism mission." "I think we are staying with the Americans (in Syria), and I can not imagine that the United States will withdraw before the defeat of Daesh" Leucuantre said on Friday in an interview with CNN.

Commenting on the statements made by Secretary of Defense of the United States James Mattis regarding the dispatch of additional special units to Syria recently, Leucuantre refused to comment on the number of these units and their deployment sites, stressing that France is working to root out the last terrorist spots in the region, especially on the border between Syria and Iraq.
