Iran to boost ties with Iraqi Kurdistan


(MENAFN) While heading a delegation in Erbil to attend the Iran-KRG economic opportunities meeting, Iran Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Mohammad Shariatmadari stressed promoting relatins with Iraqi Kurdistan Region, IRNA reported.

The event is to be held with the attendance of Prime Minister of Iraqi Kurdistan, Nechirvan Barzani, Iran envoy to Iraq, Iraj Masjedi, Iraqi governor generals and chambers of commerce of Iran and Iraqi Kurdistan Region.

After the September 2017 referendum in the Iraqi Kurdistan region, which was called as unconstitutional by Baghdad, the Iraqi government decided to close the joint borders between the Kurdistan region and the neighboring countries.

Since May 27 and after a six-month suspension, flights between the Iranian capital, Tehran, and the city of Erbil in the Iraqi Kurdistan region have been resumed.
