Second edition of RAM Cycling League concludes

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The second edition of the Royal Air Maroc (RAM) Qatar Cycling League came to a conclusion on Friday at Al Bidda Park with as many as 113 riders take part.
The last leg of the league was held at one of the most beautiful sceneries on Doha Corniche, with a wonderful family attendance and beautiful atmosphere. The final stage, which totalled nearly 18km, was over five consecutive laps.
Veteran Fergal McCool from Velostar team won the League Cup and the Royal Air Maroc shirt for the first place after scoring 405 points overall during the league in Men A category, while Julie Melville didn't find it difficult to retain her women A title after scoring 600 points.
Andrew Tangonan grabbed the first place in Men B and the Royal Air Maroc shirt with a total of 552 points, while Shawna Garrett grabbed the League Cup and the RAM shirt in Women B category.
In Men C category, Zaid Hamza of Qatar national team grabbed the shirt and the race Cup after scoring 555 points.
'The league is in continuous development and the second edition was better than the first, as it saw increased number of participants across three categories, divided into age groups, and the new administrative and technical team, said Qatar Cycling and Triathlon Federation president Dr Mohamed Jeham al-Kuwari.
Dr al-Kuwari added: 'We have a long-term development plan and our goal is to have a strong international competition like Tour of Qatar, and we hope to see professional cyclists in the streets of Qatar one day. Some of our other plans include providing training courses from the International Cycling Union (UCI) to our local coaches. We have more than 20 trainers holding the international license already. Now we are engaged hand in hand with the development of triathlon sport, and we hope to attract many sponsors from the national organisations.
Royal Air Maroc's regional director Adel Khalloufi said that the Moroccan airline supports cycling in coordination with Qatar Cycling Federation, and also offers Qataris and participants a chance to receive a ticket to visit Morocco. Royal Air Maroc, he said, supports several sports and activities in Qatar, including golf.
He said, 'We extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to Qatar Cycling Federation for their good work through a successful and meaningful partnership between the two parties.
