Japanese official highlights importance of Japanese PM's visit to Jordan

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Aqaba, April 29 (Petra)-- Japanese Deputy Press Secretary Toshihide Ando said that Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will visit Jordan on Monday during which he will hold talks with His Majesty King Abdullah II and Prime Minister Hani Al Mulki.

He added in a press conference in Aqaba that the talks will focus on means to strengthen cooperation and strategic partnership between Jordan and Japan in the economic and investment domains, in addition to current regional issues.

He said the Japanese prime minister will be accompanied during his two-day visit, by an economic delegation comprising CEO's of major Japanese companies in the energy, heavy and light industries, transport, infrastructure, communications and information technology sectors.

Ando praised efforts of His Majesty the King to enhance security and stability in the region as well as his stance on terrorism, affirming that Japan is keen to strengthen its economic relations with Jordan and support the Kingdom to achieve peace in the region.

"Japan attaches special importance to its distinguished bilateral ties with Jordan" he said, noting that Japan also appreciates Jordan's role in hosting Syrian refugees despite the economic hardships facing it.

The Japanese government decided last week to provide Jordan with $4 million within the emergency aid package to the refugees in Jordan, Syria and Lebanon valued at $14 million.
