Syrian refugee dead after beaten to death in Lebanon

(MENAFN) A Lebanese soldier has beaten a Syrian refugee to death in Bekaa Valley near the Syrian border, according to Syrian news agency Zaman Al-Wasl.

The crime took place in public when Wais had stopped his mini-bus to deliver one of the children to his home in the traffic hour. The soldier stepped out of his car and start shouting at the driver. When he knew that he is Syrian, he returned to his car and brought a baton where he hit the refugee man several times on his head, according to al-Homsi.

This attack is one of several that have taken place in Lebanon recent months, during increased discriminatory rhetoric and violence towards Syrian refugees from locals.
Authorities have also raided refugees' homes and deported those they deem suspicious.

Last week international NGO Human Rights Watch (HRW) condemned the Lebanese government's expulsion of hundreds of Syrian refugees from their temporary homes in the country in a new report "Our Homes Are Not For Strangers".
