Smart cities investment could boost Oman's IT market: SAP

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- Global enterprise solutions provider SAP believes that Oman government's push for smart cities could boost IT spending in the country and would provide attractive opportunities for SAP to offer its cloud-based solutions to the companies, government departments and other stakeholders.
'According to a report by BMI Research, the government's initiatives to set up smart cities could boost IT spending in the country and could create business opportunities to the tune of RO122mn by 2019,' Waheed al Hamaid, country general manager - SAP Middle East & North Africa LLC said.
He said that Oman's smart cities are now rapidly moving from theory to reality. 'And it means that the authorities would need innovative IT solutions to meet future challenges. This will provide an opportunity to companies like SAP to offer their cloud-based enterprise solutions. We are showcasing some of these solutions at Comex which is an ideal platform to showcase how smart cities can enhance quality of life, enable real-time decision making, and drive new levels of economic growth and job creation.'
Speaking about SAP's products, Hamaid said, 'At Comex, we are showing our latest enterprise solutions such as digital board room, which provides real-time analytics that helps companies in taking real-time decisions. SAP is also showing its other platform Leonardo, which is dedicated for emerging technologies besides other solutions.'
He said the cloud-based solutions will be the key to success of any business in the country, as authorities, government departments and even private sector need to focus on their respective key areas and innovations for the growth.
Hamaid added, 'SAP has provided smart city solutions to a number of cities including Hamburg and Buenos Aires. We are also currently working with authorities for a number of smart cities in the GCC.'
