Guatemala plans for moving embassy to Jerusalem

(MENAFN) Guatemala's government is making plans with Israel's foreign Ministry to set up the embassy's administration.

Guatemalan Foreign Minister Sandra Jovel said that President Jimmy Morales will be present when the country's Israel embassy is moved to Jerusalem.

"It is estimated that the President can attend the inauguration of the transfer of the embassy to Jerusalem," the Guatemalan foreign minister said at a press conference.

The embassy is currently located in the occupied Tel Aviv but will be relocated on May 16. The president made the announcement late December after the United States declared a similar decision of recognizing the holy city of Quds, Jerusalem as the capital of the Zionist entity of Israel.

"Work is being done to have the issue of leasing, the payment of the officials, the administrative area and the services of the embassy in Jerusalem ready," Jovel explained.
