(MENAFN) A top UN humanitarian official has voice his unease over Yemen receiving inadequate commercial imports, more specifically food imports.
The statement has been made by UN Undersecretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Mark Lowcock while speaking to the Security Council on his concerns.
The UN official stated "we remain very concerned about commercial imports through all of Yemen's ports, most particularly (the Red Sea ports of) Hudaydah and Saleef."
Lowcock noted "commercial shortages and delays at ports have led to sharp increase in the price of food and household necessities. Ports are the lifeline of Yemen."
He also raised concerns over how the jump in prices pushes countless Yemen citizens to appeal for humanitarian support to be provided for their lives to be saved.
