Indonesian woman arrested for dumping baby in trash bin

A 28-year-old Indonesian woman was arrested by Malaysian police in the city of Miri on the island of Borneo after allegedly dumping her newborn baby in a public trash bin.

On March 30, a 57-year-old man heard the sound of crying and discovered a baby boy covered in blood, with his umbilical cord still attached, near Imperial Mall in Miri, China Press reported. The baby was then taken to Miri Hospital and is reported to be in good health.

Police later raided a rented apartment in the neighborhood where a woman was arrested. According to the preliminary investigation, she gave birth to a baby and then abandoned him.

Police are continuing their investigation under Section 317 of the Malaysian Penal Code, where convicted parents or guardians who abandon a child aged under 12 years old can be jailed for up to seven years or fined.
