(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Sao Paulo, Apr 3 (Petra) –– Brazilian President Michel Temer said that holding the Arab-Brazilian Economic Forum in Sao Paulo is a key starting point to build a new future for economic ties between his country and the Arab world, expressing his satisfaction with endeavours to broaden trade exchange between the two sides.
In remarks after a meeting with Jordan Chamber of Commerce president, Senator Nael Al-Kabariti, on the sidelines of the economic forum yesterday, the Brazilian leader said his country was willing to see Jordan and Lebanon joining the Mercosur Group, the most prominent economic integration in South America, comprising Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Venezuela, and is one of the largest global economic blocs Temer said he will ask his ministers to start negotiations on this matter, pointing out that his country is interested in activating agreements with Tunisia and Morocco to enhance trade exchange, which reached about $20 billion last year.
He said that Brazil is a "peaceful" country and has common interests with the Arab world in many fields, including energy, defense, tourism, sports and culture, noting a visit to Jordan and other Arab countries last month by Foreign Minister Aloysio Nunes, which aimed to bolster relations and explore investments that could be brought to Brazil.
The Arab-Brazilian Economic Forum was organised by the Union of Arab Chambers of Commerce in coordination with the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce and the Jordan Chamber of Commerce, with a wide participation of businessmen and Brazilians. It brought together officials, representatives and executive directors of companies and institutions from across the world to discuss trade and cultural relations between the two regions.
The forum tackled a host of issues related to innovation, technology, food security, logistics, investment, renewable energy, halal products and trademarks, and other topics of common interest between Brazil and the Arab countries.
The Brazilian president noted that the Arab community in Brazil had remarkable contributions to his country's progress in many fields, pointing out that Brazil and the Arab world are linked with old and strong bonds, including trade. He said that Brazil was seeking to exit the "worst economic recession" in the last two years and had conducted reforms for this end.
