Israel admits striking Syrian nuclear reactor in 2007

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, March 21 (Petra) -- Israel's military sources Wednesday admitted for the first time its fighter jets destroyed a suspected Syrian nuclear reactor in 2007 in its final stages.

The admission comes after Israeli military censors lifted an order banning officials from discussing the operation.

Israeli army spokesman Avichay Adraee posted a video on facebook of the strike in the eastern city of Deir ez-Zor on the night between 5-6 September 2007 that targeted a Syrian nuclear reactor in development.

Another video showed the Israeli chief commander, Gadi Eizenkot, having a meeting with his officers to inform them of the operation exactly before its launch.

'I don't give them the exact details of the target and its essence, but I say that there's going to be a significant attack in the upcoming 24-48 hours, Eizenkot said.

"Low, to me, is even 15 or 20 percent, which is a lot, he added." AK
