(MENAFN- Asia Times) A police officer in Dubai has been jailed for one year after he molested and attempted to rape a Filipino saleswoman.
The off-duty policeman met with the Filipina in a coffee shop in May 2017 to discuss a new credit card that her bank was advertising, Gulf News reported.
After the meeting, the officer took the woman in his car supposedly to drive to the bank to sign some documents. But he drove in another direction and told the woman he was driving to another branch.
However, the man stopped in a parking lot and locked the car. He then molested the woman and tried to rape her.
The woman said the man coerced her to perform oral sex on him and he abused her sexually.
She said he dropped her off at a gas station after to wash up. But the Filipina locked herself in the bathroom and called a friend for help. Her friend took her to a police station, where she documented the attack.
The policeman, whose nationality was not revealed, was convicted on Tuesday by Dubai's Court of First Instance. The court ordered that he be deported after serving his jail term.
