DOHA: More than 43,000 poor people benefited from income generation projects implemented by Qatar Charity (QC) in 27 countries last year.
The projects helped develop the capabilities of the beneficiaries and provided job opportunities to them in many areas, with special focus on the families of orphans and Syrian refugees.
Director of the QC's Project Management Khalid Al Yafei said that income generating projects are part of the charity's strategy to combat poverty and support individuals and communities in a sustainable manner in needy countries.
He said that QC implemented a total of 4,886 income projects last year. QC gave great importance to income generating projects, due to their great benefits and positive return to individuals and communities, taking into account the quality of projects and the specificity of the countries, regions and target groups.
The largest beneficiaries of QC's income generating projects are orphans (sponsored by QC) and the members of the families with whom they are living. A big portion of the fund of income generation projects were devoted to the Syrian refugees and those displaced inside the country.
The projects aim at providing jobs, improving their skills and capabilities and supporting their projects that ensure a constant source of income to take care of their families. The income-generating projects includes providing fishing boats, poultry farm, agricultural farms, shops, dairy farm- cattle, goats, transport vehicles, sewing machines, embroidery machines, motorcycles and selling carts.
The beneficiary countries included Palestine, Turkey, Sudan, Ethiopia, Jordan, Albania, Bosnia, Kosovo, Senegal, Somalia, Kenya, Morocco, India, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Burkina Faso, Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia, Sri Lanka, Syria, Ghana, Kyrgyzstan, Cambodia, Lebanon and Mali.
