Russia to call intercontinental missile after Syrian city

(MENAFN) Russia's Ministry of Defense has decided through a public poll that an intercontinental missile should be named after a Syrian city, AlKhaleejonline.com reported on Friday.

The nuclear-capable missile has now been named "Palmyra".

The poll's idea arose after Russian President Vladimir Putin called upon the Russian people to aid in choosing names for three new strategic weapons.

After the results of the poll were analyzed by the ministry, it was revealed that "Palmyra" had received the most votes. Voters were given several options to choose from.
