Lebanon transport project to receive USD295m from World Bank

(MENAFN) The World Bank was declared to be sending USD295 funds for Lebanon's transport sector, with the purpose of opening job opportunities.

Lebanon is to witness its first contemporary transport overhaul through the Greater Beirut Public Transport Project (GBPTP), as it would lessen the pressure on the roads.

World Bank regional director for the Mashreq, Saroj Kumar Jha stated "Lebanon needs to mobilize private investment to stimulate its economy and create jobs while also developing its much-needed infrastructure."

The director continued "poor transport connectivity exacerbates the already problematic inequitable growth between Beirut and hinterland regions. It hinders access to employment and services for the poor and other vulnerable groups."
