Jordan condemns assassination attempt on Palestinian PM

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Mar.14 (Petra) -- The government, on Wednesday, condemned the assassination attempt on Palestinian Prime Minister, Rami Al-Hamdallah and the Director of Palestinian Intelligence Major General Majid Faraj, which injured a number of their guards on Tuesday as they crossed to the Gaza Strip.

Minister of State for Media Affairs, the government spokesman, Mohammad Al-Momani said: "This attempt is a deliberate targeting of Palestinian national unity and the Palestinian National Accord Government's efforts to unify to realize the Palestinian people's hopes and aspirations." Al-Momani added that such acts would undermine Palestinian reconciliation efforts and increase the plight of Palestinian people, who have suffered greatly in order to restore their legitimate rights, foremost of which is their right to establish their own independent and viable state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He reiterated Jordan leadership, government and people's support to the Palestinian people, the efforts of the National Accord Government in order to strengthen reconciliation and achieve national unity, which are the first and most important steps on the way to restore the Palestinian people's legitimate rights.

The minister underlined Jordan's long-standing and historic commitment to the Palestinian cause and defending the Palestinians' just and legitimate rights, and continuing efforts at various national, regional and international levels to do so.
