Jordan- House speaker meets Greek counterpart


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, March 14 (Petra)--Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament Atef Tarawneh said that Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, was able to overcome various challenges arising from the situation in the region.

At a meeting with Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament Nicholas Voutsis, Tarwarneh said that terrorism have repeatedly tried to target Jordan, but the vigilance and readiness of the Arab army and various security agencies prevented terrorists from achieving their objectives.

On the issue of refugees, he urged the international community to shoulder its responsibilities and provide support to the Kingdom which is hosting a large number of refugees.

During the meeting, Tarawneh said that a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue based on the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, is key to achieving peace and security in the Middle East.

On Syria, the speaker said that dialogue and political solution are the only way to end the Syrian crisis and end the suffering of the Syrian people.

The Greek official for his part voiced appreciation of Jordan's stances, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, towards regional issues, mainly the hosting of refugees.

Greece he said, believes in alliances to confront extremism, terrorism and terror organizations.

Voutsis stressed the need to boost cooperation between Jordan and Greece in the political, economic, scientific, cultural and tourism fields.
