French, German envoys applaud Kuwait presidency of UNSC

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) By Nasser Al-Otaibi KUWAIT, March 11 (KUNA) -- French and German ambassadors to Kuwait Marie Masdupuy and Karlfried Bergner, respectively, spoke highly of Kuwait's successful lobbing for the UN Security Council Resolution 2411 on Syria.

France appreciates Kuwait's active role in addressing the regional and international issues during its presidency of Council in February, Masdupuy said.

She made the statements to KUNA on Sunday evening on the sidelines of a farewell reception in honor of Somalia's outgoing ambassador to Kuwait Dr. Abdulkadir Sheikh Amin.

Kuwait took great strides in tackling the Middle East issues, particularly the Palestine cause and the Syrian crisis, she said, citing the adoption of the UNSC Resolution 2411 jointly presented by Kuwait and Sweden.

France backs Kuwait's initiatives at the UNSC relating to the Middle East and Africa, given the shared values and common views of both countries, Masdupuy said, noting that a French delegation will be visiting Kuwait in the coming weeks to discuss the issues on the agenda of the UNSC.

She commended the growing cooperation between France and Kuwait in all areas particularly the defense one.

On his part, the German ambassador said Kuwait, since joining the UNSC membership in January, has adopted a balanced and moderate approach to addressing the issues of the Middle East.

Bergner appreciated Kuwait's humanitarian efforts across the region and beyond, notably its relief aid to the Syrian refugees.

He lauded as exemplary the relations between his country and Kuwait in the political, economic and cultural fields, noting that the German companies have a chance to invest heavily in the renewable energy sector in Kuwait. (end) nma.fsh.gb
