Pakistan, US voice support for Afghan reconciliation process


(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) PESHAWAR: Pakistan and the United States have emphasised the need for restoration of reconciliation process in Afghanistan.

Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua said in an interview in Washington that talks with the US officials were held in a very cordial atmosphere. She said the US officials expressed willingness to further strengthen relations with Pakistan.

Tehmina Janjua also informed the US officials about apprehensions of Pakistan. However, both the sides agreed to enhance positive contacts. Tehmina Janjua said the US is well aware of the importance of Pakistan in the region.

Pakistan's serving ambassador to the US Aizaz Chaudhry said the talks emphasised on need for durable peace in Afghanistan. He said both the US and Pakistan welcomed the US President Ashraf Ghani's offer of talks with the Taliban.

A Pakistani delegation led by Tehmina Janjua is in the US to hold talks with the State Department officials.
