Kuwait- Syrian Govt' forces encircle Douma, Ghouta's provincial capital

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) AMMAN, March 10 (KUNA) -- Syrian government forces have sealed off Ghouta's provincial capital Douma, located on outskirts of the Syrian capital, amid expected withdrawal of scores of gunmen from the besieged region.

According to the London-based Syrian Monitor for Human Rights, the army troops have surrounded Douma and Harasta in East Ghouta, and the regulars have advanced deep into Ghouta thus cutting off logistical routes for the opposition gunmen entrenched in the region.

Earlier today, the regular forces advanced toward Misraba, located in the heart of Ghouta. Misraba's control will cut off the northern enclave of Ghouta from the south.

Meanwhile, the government-run Syrian television said 600 gunmen were preparing to withdraw from East Ghouta via Jesrin passageway.

On Friday, 13 gunmen of Al-Nusra Front, accompanied by their families, pulled out of Ghouta and proceeded to the opposition-controlled northwestern region of Idlib.

Ghouta, besieged by the government forces, has been a major battlefield between the regime and opposition forces. (end) tk.rk
