Jordan- Interior minister meets Saudi counterpart in Algeria

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Mar.7 (Petra) -- Interior Minister, Samir Mubaidain, met Wednesday in Algeria with his Saudi counterpart, Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Nayef Al Saud, the Honorary President of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers.

The meeting, held on the sidelines of the 35th session of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers in Algeria, discussed ways to promote bilateral ties, especially in the areas of security, exchanging of expertise and addressing security challenges facing the two countries.

Mubaidain said activating and enhancing security cooperation between Jordan and Saudi Arabia requires opening wider areas of cooperation in the fields of training, rehabilitation and protecting and monitoring joint borders to prevent any security breaches that may occur.

He underlined the importance of continuous coordination between the two sides, and developing fast and sophisticated communication mechanisms, to prevent drug trafficking and counter terrorism and crime.

The fight against crime should not be confined to the security services alone, Mubaidain said, adding that it requires a holistic effort involving all state institutions and civil society, in particular addressing the growing and widespread scourge of drugs.

Both ministers agreed that the most pressing and important issue at the moment is to maintain Arab national security, and providing all technological, and human resources necessary to achieve that goal.

In turn, Prince Abdulaziz voiced his country's keenness to promote ties with Jordan, in all political, social, economic and security fields.
