Jordan: 400,70 visitors to Petra in Feb


(MENAFN) The number of visitors to the ancient city of Petra rose in February by 55% compared with the same period in 2017, according to Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) Chief Commissioner Falah Omoush.

Omoush told Jordan News Agency (Petra) on Monday that the Authority finished its preparations to welcome visitors and took the necessary measures to facilitate the tourism process smoothly to serve the tourists and the local community alike, emphasizing at the same time the need to increase Jordan's share of the world tourism market.

For his part, Deputy Chief Commissioner of PDTRA Suleiman Farajat noted that the overall development of tourism throughout last year stood at 34% compared to 2016, including foreign visitors, Arabs, Jordanians and school trips.

The number of foreign tourists reached 400,70 people in February 2018, pointing a 55% increase compared to the same period of the last year, when the number of visitors stood at 257,95 in 2017.
