Doha: The Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) announced that the lab results of rock melon, also called cantaloupes, from Australia, which were withdrawn from the market, showed that the fruit is free of listeria and other types of bacteria such as salmonella and escherichia coli.

Ministry had withdrawn suspected rock melons from the outlets after receiving a global notification that it might be contaminated with listeria.

As a precautionary measure, the Ministry detained a new shipment, which arrived after the notification.

The Ministry clarified that all detained items will be destroyed, to avoid any possibility of consumption risk. The Ministry has also taken other precautionary measures to prevent importing new shipments of rock melons suspected of being unsafe.

MOPH explains that it works with all other stakeholders to ensure the highest standards of food safety are implemented.
