KUWAIT CITY, March 4: Rapporteur of the Women and Family Committee of the National Assembly MP Safa'a Al-Hashem said the law to combat family violence will be completed in a few days, reports Al-Rai daily. She added, those found guilty of violence will face prison term ranging from one to seven years depending on the nature of the incident. The legislation also calls fro housing for the victim and her children.

Al-Hashem said the committee will meet tomorrow in the presence of representatives from the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor to discuss the text of the proposed law which is seen as an urgent matter. 'There are cases where teenage girls and women have suffered permanent disabilities as a result of violence and neglect associated with this phenomenon, which must be faced with deterrent laws to limit its spread,' said Al-Hashem added. 'One of the cases she heard was summarized in a complaint filed by a girl who was sexually assaulted by her brothers and although the mother was aware her attitude was negative,' she added.
