Jordan- King visits Indian Institute of Technology Delhi


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) New Delhi, Feb. 28 (Petra) - His Majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday visited the "Indian Institute of Technology Delhi", which is one of 16 institutes the Indian government had established in several cities to act as centers of excellence, scientific research and development.

During his meeting with the director of the institute and a number of deans and faculty members, His Majesty listened to a short presentation about the institute and its educational programs in the engineering, science and technology domains to stimulate creativity and innovation among students.

Director of the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, Professor Ramgopal Rao, delivered a briefing on prospects of scientific cooperation between the Institute and Jordanian universities in the future.

King Abdullah stressed the importance of enhancing cooperation and exchange of expertise between Jordanian and Indian universities, underlining the need to benefit from the distinguished Indian expertise in information technology and scientific research.

His Majesty pointed out that the Indian experience in establishing cooperation between the industrial, government and educational institutions at all theoretical and applied levels is a distinctive model that Jordan can benefit from.

King Abdullah spoke said that providing continuous support and development of the ICT sector is a priority in Jordan, noting that more than 23 percent of IT entrepreneurs in the Middle East and North Africa region are young Jordanians.

The King expressed hope for further cooperation between the 'Indian Institute of Technology Delhi' and Jordanian universities in a number of fields, including information technology and security, renewable energy and energy storage solutions.

The meeting focused on the importance of technical education to enable young people to secure jobs either by working for IT companies or by establishing their own enterprises.

On the sidelines of His Majesty's visit to the Institute, a five-year memorandum of understanding was signed between the Institute and the King Hussein Technical University, with the aim of exchanging know-how and expertise between students and faculty members.

The MoU was signed by the President of the King Hussein Technical University Dr. Labib Khadra and the Director of the 'Indian Institute of Technology Delhi', Professor Ramgopal Rao.

During his visit to the Institute, the King was accompanied by a student delegation from a number of Jordanian schools, on a tour of the Indian capital New Delhi and the city of Agra, where they will visit a number of institutes and scientific and technology centers.
