(MENAFN) After Saudi Arabia rejected to accept US's non-proliferation "gold standard" for civil nuclear cooperation deal, the talks were frozen under the former US administration, according to PressTV.
A report by Bloomberg said that Washington is considering whether to give into Riyadh's demand in return for the regime to pick US contractors for building reactors in Saudi Arabia adding that US Energy Secretary Rick Perry will hold talks with Saudi Arabia's Minister of Energy and Industry Khalid Bin Abdulaziz al-Falih in London on Friday in "a crucial step" in the Trump-era nuclear discussions.
The Kingdom plans to set up 16 nuclear power reactors over the next 20 to 25 years at a cost of more than USD80 billion.
Analysts said the US may give up the "gold standard" in a step to stop the profitable agreement from going to other potential contractors, like Russia and China.
It's worth mentioning that US has always been a strong ally for Saudi regime in its war against Yemen, as Trump first foreign visit to the kingdom resulted on providing Riyadh with USD110 billion worth of weapons.
