MENA: US Supreme Court extends DACA for "Dreamers"

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump's appeal to end deportation protections for young immigrants brought illegally to the country or the so-called Obama-era's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), has been rejected by the US Supreme Court.

Rejecting government's request to bypass an appeals court's ruling and grants a quick decision, the high court said on Monday that it would not hear the Trump administration's appeal.

This decision will allow younger immigrants, known as dreamers, to stay in the US despite the Congress' failure to reach a deal to protect them permanently.

Last year, Trump decided to dismiss the DACA program and assigned Congress to find an alternative solution by 5 March.

Earlier this month, the Senate blocked three immigration proposals by the government to protect these dreamers.
