Saudi Arabia destroys WFP truck in Yemen
(MENAFN) A humanitarian convoy of the World Food Program has been targeted by Saudi Arabia.
The Saudi-led military coalition said that they hit two vehicles and a truck, loaded with food, in the south of the province of Saada on Thursday, February 22.
"What was bombed, the day and the place indicated by the media, was a legitimate target. What the coalition bombed was a checkpoint belonging to Iranian-backed armed Houthi militiamen. They were not civilians, "said the statement, which acknowledges that the coalition later learned that the truck belonged to WFP.
"The truck was damaged because it did not ask for permission to travel in the conflict zone. This contradicts the principles of coordination between Joint Coalition Command and the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Yemen," adds the text.
