OIC calls on int'l community to respond to Palestinian peace plan

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) JEDDAH, Feb 22 (KUNA) -- The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) welcomed the "peace plan" presented by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas last Tuesday before the UN Security Council to revive the peace process.

In a statement, the organization stressed the need to achieve a just and comprehensive peace in the region, especially through the two-state solution based on relevant international resolutions and Arab peace initiative.

OIC also called on all concerned international parties to implement proposals made in the Palestinian speech, especially the holding of an international peace conference with the participation of all international partners.

In addition, OIC calls for the launch a political process under the auspices of multilateral parties within a specific time frame to resolve all final status issues and recognize the Palestinian State as a full member of the United Nations on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The statement said these proposals are in line with OIC visions, positions and commitment to support efforts of the international community to achieve a comprehensive and lasting peace in the region.

In recent days, a speech to the United Nations Security Council was made by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, which called for an international peace conference to be held mid-year based on international resolutions, with broad participation including the Palestinian and Israeli sides and regional and international parties.

Abbas presented in his speech a plan for peace in the Middle East to address fundamental problems that have caused the failure of peace efforts for decades. (end) nh.mb
