Hamad wins both races but Abdullah claims title

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Qatar's Hamad al-Asam enjoyed a perfect couple of days during the fourth round of the Qatar Touring Car Championship held this weekend at Losail International Circuit.
On Friday, al-Asam got the pole position with a lap time of 2:24.011, and on Saturday he won both races ahead of the leader of the championship, Abdullah al-Khelaifi.
Al-Khelaifi finished second in both races, and has already secured the QTCC championship with only one round to go in April.
The third position in both races was won by newcomer Ahmed al- Kuwari.
Al-Asam was extremely happy with his result during the weekend.
'First of all congratulations to Abdullah as the champion of the season. I had a hat-trick so this is perfect. It took a lot time to get on the podium but finally I made it. I did the best pole position this year, the car was fantastic, he said.
Al-Khelaifi's plan was to secure the championship this weekend.
'Today I was planning to maintain at least third position to secure the championship and then push harder if I can, said al-Khelaifi.
'The second race was perfect as I had secured the championship. It was fun racing with Hamad.
Ahmed al-Kuwari joined the championship for first time and he couldn't have had a better debut.
'The first race was fun. It was nice to be involved with all these guys. It is my first time I am racing in the championship and to be on the podium was great.
'The second race was nice but after the first race I realised that I had one bad injector, the engine was slow in power so I couldn't push and catch the guys as I might have damaged the engine. So I decided to look after the engine.
Champion al-Khelaifi has 148 points while al-Asam is second with 93 and Adham El Dib third place with 78.
Trophies were presented by Abdulrazak al-Kuwari, QMMF General Secretary.
The fifth and last round will be held on April 6 and 7.
