Jordan: protests over prices and health issues to continue

(MENAFN) Jordanian people took to the streets on Friday protesting the governments' decision to impose higher taxes on commodities, including fuels, foodstuffs and cigarettes.

In the capital of Jordan, Amman, after Friday prayers, a protest kicked off from Al Husseini Mosque in downtown, where many carried placards with the slogans "Putting up prices is playing with fire," "Citizens' pockets aren't the answer" and "Take your hands off poor people's pockets."

Meanwhile, activists in other governorates like Madaba, Karak and Ma'an held similar protests, where they called for that the government reconsiders its decision to increase prices, and urged them to find a way to improve Jordanians' living conditions.

In another area, this week the government announced that it will stop the free treatment of more than 1400 cancer patients in King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC), and said that these patients are costing the country a lot of added money.

It's worth mentioning that most Jordanian people come from pour backgrounds specially those who have sick family members.
