(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- Tea has been an integral part of the Japanese culture for centuries. Wars have been resolved, family feuds turned emotional, and love stories ended in marital bliss through this simple drink. Making tea, easy it may sound, for the Japanese is indeed a matter of prestige and gallant display of supremacy and status.
At the Naseem Gardens on the last day of the 2018 edition of Muscat Festival, the Embassy of Japan hosted a tea and calligraphy event as part of its cultural show for the people of Oman to have a feel of the historical city of Nara.
The stall showcased an array of items including Yamato cha (green tea from Yamato), sweet Kotoka strawberry in biscuits, Kudzu Mochi roots among some from the south central area. Speaking about the delicacies Nanako, a representative at the stall said, 'Japan is one of the most hospitable countries in Asia and we love to pamper our guests. 'For centuries, Japanese are known to prepare tea with utmost love and care. The brew, at times, takes hours and until we are sure of the smell and colour, we do not serve our guests.'
She added that the tea and biscuits have always been integral part of Japanese lifestyle and parties, get-togethers and other celebrations are incomplete without tea. The event also showcased some of the artistic collections of calligraphy works. There were phrases and special auspicious lucky words imprinted on paper.
Mohammad Rashid, who is working at a local supermarket said, 'I have adored Japan for its technical wizards, advancements and innovations. 'Never have I known of the country's other aspects like art and cuisine. My respect for the country has increased more because like us Omanis, they too respect and hold in high esteem their culture and tradition.'
