DOHA: The Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) will provide health advice and discuss the importance of good nutrition and physical activity at different venues today as part of National Sport Day activities.
It will encourage individuals to adopt a healthy lifestyle and continue throughout. HMC's National Sport Day events will focus also on raising awareness of the positive effects of sport and physical activity as part of a healthy lifestyle.
There is a strong link between regular physical activity and the prevention of several chronic diseases, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, hypertension, obesity, and depression. However, experts will also highlight the importance of taking precautions to do sport activities in a healthier and safe way.
'Safety is important in everything we do. It's essential to take precautions and keep it at a moderate level while doing sport activities. People shouldn't overdo any activity. It's also important to drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration and exhaustion. Although the weather is pleasant, people can get sun burns so must take sun screens, Dr Khalid Abdulnoor Saifeldeen, Director at HMC's Hamad International Training Centre, told The Peninsula.
'Most importantly children should be kept under supervision while doing sport activity. Parents and caretakers should make sure that children are kept safe from water and any other possible risk, said Dr Saifeldeen, who is also Chairman of ‘Kulluna' a Health and Safety initiative.
HMC's Ambulance Service, Qatar Metabolic Institute, Tobacco Control Center, and Kulluna Program are also organizing activities at The Pearl-Qatar and Katara Cultural Village between 8am and 6pm. Staff from HMC will provide health advice and discuss the importance of good nutrition and physical activity. Educational materials will be distributed and free health screening checks will be available.
'Hamad Medical Corporation is proud to be part of Qatar's annual National Sport Day celebrations. The day represents an opportunity to participate in a wide range of physical activities - not only to have fun but also to highlight the importance of sport in building a healthy community. As Qatar's main healthcare provider, HMC is committed to providing each and every one of its patients with the safest, most effective, and most compassionate care, HMC said in a press statement yesterday.
Qatar was the first country in the world to dedicate one day for its citizens and residents to celebrate sports and the promotion of a healthy lifestyle. The country's strong focus on health is an integral part of the Qatar National Vision 2030.
