Amazon to cut jobs

(MENAFN) After years of major growth, Amazon will be eliminating hundreds of positions at its headquarters and global operations.

The layoffs were first reported by the Seattle Times, which said the move is aimed at cutting down the firm's consumer retail business.

The giant retail company said it will be offering new roles to the affected staff, and that it expects "small reductions in a couple of places and aggressive hiring in many others."

Amazon has counted over 560,000 full and part-time employees across the world at the end of December, which is an expansion of over 65 percent from the previous year.
