Turkey releases another German national

(MENAFN) Another German national held in Turkey on what Berlin considers political grounds has been released from custody, according to the German government.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Rainer Breul said the man was released on Monday, but measures against him continue and he isn't allowed to leave Turkey. He wouldn't give further details Friday on the case.

Breul said the release reduces to six the number of German citizens still held in Turkey for what his government considers political reasons.

The jailing of German or German-Turkish nationals over terror-related allegations has been a major irritant in German-Turkish relations over the past year.

A number have been released in recent months but the most prominent case -that of journalist Deniz Yucel, a correspondent for German daily Die Welt- remains unresolved.
