First Kuwait Wheelchair Basketball Tournament concludes


(MENAFN- Arab Times) The First Kuwait Wheelchair Basketball for the Handicapped Tournament will conclude Tuesday at the hall of Kuwait Disabled Sport Club.

The club organized the three-day tournament. On the final day, the first match will start at 4:00 pm to determine the third and fourth placers; whereas the final match will kick off at 5:30 pm, followed by the closing ceremony and distribution of prizes.

Secretary-General of the club Abdullah Al-Azmi invited the public to watch the matches on the final day, adding that the organizing committee prepared prizes and gifts for the fans.

Al-Azmi revealed the closing ceremony will be held with official presence and high-level sports representation. He affirmed the tournament achieved its objectives such as the distinguished celebration for the club coinciding with the National Day, Liberation Day and 12th anniversary of HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah's ascension to power.

He pointed out the tournament serves as an important station for programs and equipping the national team players to enter West Asia.

He also extended his gratitude and appreciation to Abdullah Al-Jasser (Aboudka) for his support as host of the tournament.

Meanwhile, on the second day of the tournament, the Lakers Team defeated Olympics by 63/48; while Aboudka defeated the Liberation by 49/47. With these results, the Lakers obtained comfortable winning points in the tournament's chart as it won all its matches with a huge margin, qualifying them to win the tournament's title.

Also, the second day witnessed recreational competition for the crowd — male and female, which took place between the two matches. The women raced on the wheelchair and the men competed in shooting hoops while seated on wheelchairs.

Aboudka, the tournament sponsor, handed out cash prizes to the winners. He pointed out the competition was aimed at familiarizing the crowd of able people with the efforts needed by a disabled person to play on wheelchair and the value of their achievements in the sports for the disabled.
