ABU DHABI, 5th February, 2018 (WAM) -- The General Civil Aviation Authority, GCAA, has launched the National Service Training Programme at the GCAA Sheikh Zayed Air Navigation Centre in Abu Dhabi.
Pilot Staff-Brigadier Sheikh Ahmed bin Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the National and Reserve Service Authority, and Saif bin Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director-General of GCAA, were present on the occasion.
The programme is in line with the strategic objective of the GCAA in providing employment opportunities to citizens aiming to work in the field of aviation for the advancement of the civil aviation sector in the UAE and in the international arena.
Al Suwaidi expressed his sincere thanks to Sheikh Ahmed bin Tahnoon for his generous approval of the GCAA to host the National Service Programme that receives great attention from the Authority at all levels. It trains and develops cadets on appropriate functions in the aviation sector and in line with the standards applied by the GCAA in Air Navigation Services and management.
He also noted that once the Federal National Service Authority agreed to the request of the GCAA to host the UAE National Service Programme, it was decided to form a team of different departments to prepare, plan and follow up on the selection of suitable candidates and prepare appropriate training programmes and ensure continuous evaluation of cadets to make best use of it.
The initiative aims to strengthen the cadet's relationship with the aviation industry by encouraging educational opportunities and activities that inspire young people to consider aviation and aeronautics as a further field of study.
"We are working hard to provide support and encouragement for the next generation of UAE nationals so that they can continue the growth of the aviation sector. Our goal is to have the UAE's best aviation system in the world. To achieve this, we need to address the increasing demand of UAE nationals in the aviation industry. The National Service programme presented the perfect opportunity to reach young people who want to join the aviation sector," Al Suwaidi added.
He displayed the history of the UAE airspace, the future of air navigation and the human and technical capabilities of the Centre to deal with the active and growing air traffic demand in the United Arab Emirates.
Sheikh Ahmed toured the various facilities of the Sheikh Zayed Air Navigation Centre, where he was briefed on the progress of its operations. He was also given a detailed explanation of the advanced technologies in the centre and the role of different sectors in ensuring the safety and continuity of air traffic flow in the UAE.
