(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman's No 1 player Fatma al Nabhani will spearhead the sultanate's challenge at the 2018 Fed Cup Asia/Oceania Group II competition at Isa Town in Bahrain from February 6-10. The other team members of Oman are Balushi siblings – Sarah and Maryam and Aisha al Suleimani.

A total of 14 countries are taking part in the event. Besides Oman and hosts Bahrain, the other teams are Indonesia, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, New Zealand, Pacific Oceania, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Uzbekistan.

Two pools of three teams and two pools of four teams will play on round-robin basis with the winners of each pool advancing to the playoffs. The winners of the two playoffs will advance to Group I in 2019. It is only the third appearance of Oman in the tournament, the previous being in 2011 and 2012. It's best finish is a seventh spot in 2012. In the nine ties played so far, Oman has won three and lost six ties.

Only Fatma and Sarah have played in the previous editions along with Maliha al Awaidy. Maryam and Aisha are set to making their Fed Cup debut.

Speaking ahead of her departure, Fatma said, 'We will be taking a cue from our men's team that did splendidly to gain promotion in Davis Cup Group III. We hope to do our best.'

Huda al Nabhani is accompanying the team as non-playing captain while Suleiman al Balushi is the head of delegation.
