Archaeologists find over 60,000 Maya ruins in Guatemala
(MENAFN) Researchers have made a historical archaeological discovery when over 60,000 Maya ruins were found in Guatemala.
They have deployed laser technology to inspect underneath the forest canopy, allowing for the discovery of defensive fortifications, palaces, houses and elevated highways.
Professor of Archaeology and Anthropology at Brown University Stephen Houston declared "I think this is one of the greatest advances in over 150 years of Maya archaeology."
The Professor also thought the scale of the new survey to be "breathtaking", he then described the breakthrough saying "I know it sounds hyperbolic but when I saw the [Lidar] imagery, it did bring tears to my eyes."
