WB's aid projects in Lebanon worth USD 1.4 billion


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BEIRUT, Feb 2 (KUNA) -- The World Bank (WB) is executing projects in Lebanon worth USD 1.4 billion, a WB official said on Friday.

Hafez Ghanem, the head of the WB group for the Middle East and North Africa, said in a statement following a meeTing with Lebanese Finance Minister Ali Khalil that his talks with the official dealt with ventures planned for next year and estimated at USD 800 million.

The WB current projects are in the educational, health and transport sectors.

Ghanem added that the forthcoming projects would be in the infrastructure.

The WB and Lebanon signed, last year, a loan accord valued at USD 200 million to support projects in the transport and road sectors, in addition to a USD 100 million grant to back a government scheme for tuition-free teaching for Lebanese and refugee children. (end) ayb.rk
