(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) AMMAN, Feb 1 (KUNA) -- The Jordanian government along with the international community have set aside a sum worth USD 7.3 billion as part of a "response plan" to deal with the crisis in Syria over the next three years.
The plan was promulgated in a meeting presided over by Prime Minister Hani Al-Mulki, where a bevy of international diplomats and UN representatives were in attendance.
The chances of repatriating 4 million Syrian refugees in all parts of the world remain slim, Al-Mulki said during the meeting, pointing out that this would only increase the burden on his country.
On the response plan, he said it illustrates the need for teamwork to effectively tackle a crisis that has raged on for nearly seven years, hailing it as "another step" towards a comprehensive response mechanism.
Jordan and the international community endorsed last year a USD 7.6 billion response plan to deal with the crisis in Syria, in which Kuwait contributed a share of USD 2.448 million.
The UN estimates that there are more than 650,000 registered Syrian refugees in Jordan. (end) ab.nam
